February Calendar ![]() LET’S CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND CONTINUE TO CONTRIBUTE, AS: “THROUGH THE STORM WE SERVE” February is Black History Month. Carter G. Woodson’s organization, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, has set forth the 2021 theme as: “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity” This year’s theme highlights the resiliency, strength and diversity of our families. Our families are our celebrations and our support. They are the touchstones of our lives. They are worthy of this praise! This is also the month of love, due to the spirit of Valentine’s Day that will soon be in the air. So be sure to take time to connect to your family. Spend quality, technology-free time with those you love. For those who do not have family living with them, use the power of technology to reach out to family members where ever they may be. Host a virtual dinner or game night, or even a movie viewing party. Let’s challenge February, the shortest month of the year, to contain all of the pride we feel as a people – and all of the love we feel in our hearts. Yours in Service, Larmender A. Register at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_1BSpKVfoS_SJOFcsXLicBw ——MONTHLY MEDITATION- The Promise of God’s Yes! 2nd Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) – For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Paul’s writes these words of encouragement about God’s promises in 2nd Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) to the Church at Corinth as they were suffering persecution for their profession of faith in Christ. Paul wanted the people to understand that God is not a God who changes so no matter how many promises God has made, for His children in the Body of Christ, the fulfillment of these promises will always be “Yes” in Christ. Paul says that we reflect our belief in this glorious declaration by our Amens. Isn’t this what we are saying when we close our prayer or give witness to the preached and taught word? We affirm with our Amen. Paul lets us know that it is of the utmost importance for us to note that God says that His yes is always “In Christ.” Let’s look at a few of the awesome promises in Scripture that we have ‘in Christ: Ephesians 2:6 says that, In Christ, God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly places…; 1st Corinthians 1:2 says that we have been sanctified in Christ (set apart)…; Philippians 4:19 says that in Christ, He will supply everything that we need; and Paul says in Philippians 4:7 that, “The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Here is our promised for Salvation because Romans 6:23 says that: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We know that we have been promised to be raised to eternal life in Christ. (1st Corinthians 15:22) We know that a promise is an oral or written agreement to do or not to do something that gives us the basis for hope. Our promises are often based on our desire to achieve a desired result. God’s promises are graciously bestowed, secured by negotiation. There are over 3000 promises for us to claim in God’s Word. What we must do is learn to depend more upon His promises to us than our promises to Him. There is a term ‘foxhole faith” or foxhole religion. It suggests that we are like soldiers in a foxhole who when being bombarded by enemy fire will make every promises under the sun to God if He will just rescue us. Because of our foxhole faith our promises to God are not always very valuable. It seems that once our lives are no longer focused on our hard times; we are no longer fixed and focused on God. But God’s promises to us are exceeding, great, and precious. Now as God promises, according to this verse, we have a responsibility to say something. What are we to say? Say, “Amen!” Amen finds its definition in a Hebrew root word meaning “believe”. The literal meaning is: “this is solidly, firmly, surely true, verified and established”. When we speak, “amen” at the end of a prayer, we are literally saying, “I agree, I believe, let it be so.” Dear Lord, we know that every promise from you will be fulfilled in the right time of Your perfect will. Grant us the grace to say ‘amen’ in faith to every promise; In Jesus’ name, Amen.
