THREE IMPORTANT THINGS FOR THIS WEEK
ONE
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations:  Monday, January 18
The following is a listing of things that we can do to individually and with our family and friends to properly recognition Dr. King and his work.
These programs are not a part of a Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. or Detroit Alumnae Chapter programming. They are only offered as an option to our regular programming that will not occur this year due to COVID-19 guidance and precautions. If you participate, you will do so an individual, not as a member of the sorority.   We strongly encourage you to join the community and the students of Detroit Public School Community District’s Martin Luther King, Jr. High School to virtually celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.    Impact Discussion On Monday, January 18 at noon and again at 2 p.m., the students of Martin Luther King will talk about the impact Dr. King – and previous King Holiday celebrations – have had on their lives and on the future of the country from the perspective of Dr. King’s teachings.
The program will be shown on Channel 900 on Comcast and via social media Facebook: MLK Annual Legacy March Detroit Instagram: MLKLegacyMarch
Let’s continue to support the students while we celebrate and meditate on Dr. King’s legacy.
The Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in collaboration with Eastern Michigan University in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will present a keynote address by PBS NewsHour White House Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor entitled “Let The People Speak: No Justice No Peace” at 1 pm.  To register, go to https://emich.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3knFLrc0QTa2fUCpQgqxiA.

About Yamiche Alcindor: Alcindor is a White House Correspondent for PBS Newshour, NBC, and MSNBC; and a political contributor to CNN. Previously a national reporter for The New York Times covering politics and social justice issues, Alcindor has also written about the legacy of President Barack Obama, outreach to voters of color, and the anxiety of working-class Americans as well as how police killings affect communities and children. She also spends time producing videos and documentaries about societal concerns such as wrongful convictions and gun violence.
For more in-person and virtual programs from The Wright Museum, go to https://www.thewright.org/mlk  For the in-person programs, you will need to schedule a time for your visit at the link previously provided.

The National Day of Service for the Inauguration of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris will celebrate and honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the same non-partisan spirit that President Barack Obama offered a Day of Service on the Dr. King holiday.
The National Day of Service is an opportunity for all Americans to unite and serve at a time when the global pandemic calls on all of us to work together and support our communities. No matter where you are, you have an opportunity to give back and the agency to do so. Most volunteer activities only require an hour or two of your time, and all events will be virtual or socially distanced, in accordance with CDC protocol.
For more information, go to https://bideninaugural.org/day-of-service/

“United We Serve” A Celebration of the National MLK Day of Service 8 p.m. The National Day of Service will culminate in an hour-long celebration that will feature a diverse array of entertainers, inspiring speakers, and stories celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to service.
Confirmed participants include the Rev. Dr. Bernice King, Martin Luther King III, Aloe Blacc, Chesca, Rep. Sharice Davids, Rosario Dawson, Andra Day, Yo-Yo Ma, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Sean Patrick Thomas, Diane Warren, Lynn Whitfield, Bebe Winans, and more.  Streamed at BidenInaugural.org/watch
