THREE IMPORTANT THINGS FOR THIS WEEK   ONE Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations:  Sunday, January 17 and Monday, January 18   We are invited to join the community and the students of Detroit Public School Community District’s Martin Luther King, Jr. High School to virtually celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Legacy Awards The celebration will begin on Sunday, January 17 at 6 p.m. as the Legacy Awards will be presented. This is a newer additional to the celebration that honors the work of individuals who contributed to the improvement of the community.
Impact Discussion On Monday, January 18 at noon and again at 2 p.m., the students of Martin Luther King will talk about the impact Dr. King – and previous King Holiday celebrations – have had on their lives and on the future of the country from the perspective of Dr. King’s teachings.
All programs will be shown on Channel 900 on Comcast and via social media Facebook: MLK Annual Legacy March Detroit Instagram: MLKLegacyMarch

THREE The Nation’s Capitol Building: Lessons from Last Week   We were all disturbed and angered by the attempted insurgency we witnessed on January 6. It was a lesson on how things can go amok when people lack understanding and “facts” come from a foundation of hate.
Our committee has received calls and texts about what we can do to combat something that is loomed over us and our ancestors for centuries.
We believe that Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the Sorority’s National Chaplain said it best during Sunday’s Founders Day Worship Service: “Don’t quit, don’t backup, move forward and do the work!”
Service is the foundation of our great sorority. That is what we are celebrating this week during our 108th year.  We will do as our 22 Founders did and as we have done for the past four years. We will persevere, shift when needed and succeed.
If you would like work with the Social Action Committee, please join us this Thursday, January 14 at 6 p.m. to work on life-affirming and community changing programming.
