HAPPY SISTERHOOD MONTH SORORS!
For Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., March is Sisterhood Month! Though we are charged with being sisterly every day, this month we set time aside to indulge in activities and actions to exude sisterhood.
Please make sure to check out our Sisterhood Month activities as carefully planned and lovingly executed by Membership Services.
Be sure to reach out to a sorority sister who you have not spoken to in a while. Be sure to engage in random acts of kindness. Send a card, make a call, shoot a text. Now more than ever, we need our sisterly connection.

“Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word.
You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day.
It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It’s someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements.” ~ Anonymous

Please know that I love you, that I’m thinking about and praying for you. I can’t wait for the day that I am able to see you in person!
Stay hopeful. This too shall pass. And in the meantime, Through the Storm we Serve . . .

In Your Service,
Larmender A. Davis
President

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
graphic-book-adventure.jpg
March is National Reading Month We need you Sorors!

March is National Reading Month! To celebrate our focus on this key development skill the Outreach Committee is hosting a virtual story time series.

All members of the community are welcome to tune in for a virtual story time. Videos posted on the Detroit Delta website will each feature the reading of a different book.

Sorors are invited to select a book, tape themselves and submit their videos to Technology@detroitdeltas.org by Sunday, March 7 at 6 p.m.
Here is a checklist that will guide you:Select a book you already have at home or find a book that is appropriate for children from pre-K to second grade. Don’t know what book to choose? No problem.
This is a list of books you can consider: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/teaching-tools/book-lists/23- back-to-school-books-for-grades-prek-2.html
 Find a well-lit area of your home that you can use to record yourself. This area should be free of any disruption or distraction
 Set up your phone, camera or any device you may have to record yourself or have someone do it for you. (videos don’t have to be a full-body)
 Be sure to read at an appropriate speed, and if you feel inclined, you can show pictures to the camera . BONUS: While not required, you can dress up as a character of the book you choose to read.
Method of recording: While not required, an option is to use PowerPoint and Zoom. Here are the steps: 1. Take pictures of every page of your book 2. Place each picture into its own PowerPoint slide and stretch the picture to fit the entire slide  3. Save your Power Point  4. Go to Zoom if you have a profile. Open a new meeting (Nobody will be there except for you)  5. Go to share a screen and select your PowerPoint  6. Position and size your picture on the page  7. Record. You can always start over if you need to 8.Press the forward button on your PowerPoint to turn the pages  9. End the recording
If you haven’t recorded already, use this script for the beginning of your video:
“Greetings to the friends and families of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Detroit Alumnae Chapter. My name is [insert here] and I want to share one of my favorite books with you.”
Storytime videos will be shared via the Chapter’s Youtube page from Monday, March 8 to Wednesday, March 31. The YouTube link will be shared via the Hotline.
Please note, videos will be a large file and if being sent through gmail, they will automatically be converted and sent through google drive.
If you have any questions or issues, please send your questions to outreach@detroitdeltas.org

DELTA DEARS

DELTA DEARS MEETNG MARCH 4 Since it’s Sisterhood month, everyone is invited!
We hope everyone is doing well since our last meeting.  Our next Zoom meeting will be Thursday, March 4  with the fellowship beginning at 10:15 am.  We will start playing games at 10:30 am and the formal meeting begins at 11:00 am.

There will be a wonderful video on the history of dance in Detroit and good information for all women from our soror, Sherryl Hinton Scott, MD, OB/GYN. Don’t forget sorors, you may invite other DEARS and because it’s Sisterhood Month, why not invite other sorors, no matter their age.  We are inviting all Sister Circles, as well.  Please add this meeting to your calendar and set the alarm the night before to remind yourself.
Click the link below to join the meeting.    Starting in March we have a new Meeting ID. You may also join the meeting by telephone or via Skype for Business.   You will only need to enter the Meeting ID if you don’t click the link.   A PASSCODE is no longer required.  This makes it much easier for everyone to join the meeting.  Don’t forget to wait for the host to let you in.

SCHOLARSHIP

SOCIAL ACTION

THREE IMPORTANT THINGS FOR THIS WEEK ONE

The 32nd Annual Delta Days at the Nation’s Capital To be held virtually, April 24 & 25
The registration fee will be $50 for alumnae chapter members, but the registration date has not been announced.
It is also unclear whether we will be asked to support Destination 22 for our collegiate sorors, who will participate in their DDNC earlier, on April 17.
This year presents a unique opportunity for sorors to participate at a lower cost and without the hassle and safety concerns of traveling.  Please save the dates and we’ll have more information to follow soon.

TWO

Our committee is continuing our efforts to focus on redistricting in the state of Michigan
We still invite sorors to join us!   You do not need to be a member of the Social Action Committee to work on this effort. We need sorors to assist in observing the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission meetings; assisting planning and implementing virtual community forums; coordinating with subject matter experts regarding “drawing lines” or creating maps for the congressional and state legislative offices; and helping us to spread the important word that redistricting matters to African Americans, to people of color, and to Detroiters, about why it is important and what role they can and should play. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please email us at socialaction@detroitdeltas.org to let us know what you are interested in participating in.

THREE

Our committee has resumed working on Criminal Justice Reform specifically related to expungements and returning citizen advocacy.
Gov. Whitmer signed bills into law that go into effect on April 1. They expand the opportunity for expungement to nearly 80,000 Detroiters. If you would like to work on expungement educational forums, please send an email to socialaction@detroitdeltas.org or contact Andrea Cartwright, our co-chair and the lead for expungement efforts, or Donyale Stephen-Atara, chair.
